I will give a brief introduction to some of the foundational contributions of George Lusztig to geometric representation theory, including Deligne-Lusztig theory on representations of finite groups of Lie type, Kazhdan-Lusztig theory on the category O of semi-simple Lie algebras, and geometric realization of affine Hecke algebras.
